hey yโ€™all! wanna take a minute of your time to help fight for the USPS?

if you havenโ€™t heard, tr*mp is refusing to help the postal service financially during this pandemic (and beyond) in an effort to starve it of funds/resources and kill it off so it can be privatized. also:

image

obviously this is not great, as tons of us rely on the USPS for all kinds of different reasons, and the privatization of this essential service would have a dramatic effect on the entire nation. namely: voting by mail would become nonexistent (โ—๏ธ), and the cost of shipping mail and goods will change astronomically.

if this sounds terrible to you (and if you live in the us, then it should!), then text USPS to 50409 to sign the petition and instantly send a signed letter to your senators and representatives. itโ€™s fast, easy, and itโ€™s action that you can take right now.

the letter urges your senators to make the financial support of the USPS a priority, and outlines why the USPS is an essential service in our country that must be defended. hereโ€™s my letter:

image

donโ€™t want to use the text service/send an electronic letter? mail a paper letter to your senatorโ€™s office.

you can also call your senators and house representatives at (202)224-3121 and urge them to support the USPS financially.

you can also buy a roll of stamps right now to help financially support the USPS on an individual level!

in conclusion: please take a minute to help support the USPS in any way you can. this is an important issue that affects all of us here in the US.

it would be AWESOME if you could reblog this & spread it, or if youโ€™d rather not reblog this post, then i encourage you to make your own post on the social media of your choice and share with your friends.

thx!

FYI: Petitions and form letters are often ignored by Congressional offices. Call your stateโ€™s US Senators and demand they work to pass S. 2965 the USPS Fairness Act, which passed the House and has been sitting in the Senate since FEBRUARY 2020.

The American Postal Workers Union has a good explainer on this, as well as Last Week Tonight. Even before Trumpโ€™s DRASTIC directive to screw over USPS, a 2006 law from the Bush administration and Republican-led Congress has basically slowly led to the US postal serviceโ€™s decline, and this is a final nail in the coffin.

The TLDR is that that 2006 law required the USPS to pre-fund postal workers health care benefits for 75 years, which meant they had to have money for employees who werenโ€™t even BORN yet.

Here is more on this issue:

Also, the issue with Trumpโ€™s latest target at the USPS isnโ€™t just refusing coronavirus aid. His new appointee to lead it is now purposely handing down directives to restrict employee overtime and late delivery trips so that mail delays start to pile up. The guiding slogan was โ€œevery piece, every day.โ€ Now itโ€™s โ€œget in, get out.โ€ Just like Betsy Devos forcing schools to reopen, this will destroy trust in these systems, force reliance on private companies, which is exactly what Trump and the businesspeople he appoints want a) as capitalists and b) to surpress people further as they become more reliant on worse and more expensive services.

Ohh, finally this one has actionable things to yell at our senate about!

Contact your senators! Just send them a quick email telling them to get their butts in gear! pass S. 2965

Additionally, if you are financially able to, buy stamps, bags, and other merch from the USPS to support it. It has many cute stamps, lovely tote bags, prints, and many other items in their “gifts” category of the USPS store.

Anonymous asked:

hii i wasn’t here during this time and i’m just curious about how the hiatus was announced. or was it not announced? how did the boys “confirm” or address it? did they say that they’re going away for 18 MonNtHs or like was it something assumed? i know niall released a solo song first so like was it expected or?? even with zayns departure, was that going around before as well? did the boys ever address it? thanks so much!! x

ificouldflymp3 answered:

It was the Sun who first reported on it, saying it was a break. And then Niall chimed in because of disband rumors.

And Louis

Later Harry has said according to Rolling Stones they were discussing it late 2014 apparently. (and 2 months before the announcement they denied it the liars)

I donโ€™t know how expected it was for all the fans, guess for some it was for others it wasnโ€™t.ย  Many of us in our corner was likeย โ€œah good for them, 5 albums in 5 years is stressful as fuck, bye Simonโ€ (as illustrated in this lovely fanart). In that regard many of us did expect it, speculating in a 5-album contract and because Zayn left. Also because of wiki-leaks saying Sycoโ€™s share of 1D ends by fiscal year march 2016.ย ย

During Mitam promo they started talking more about the hiatus/break. Harry said 1 year:

And later they said theyโ€™re not planning kind of guys so they donโ€™t know, Louis pledged theyโ€™re coming backย and pinky swore, and then Liam said 2 years off:

And the 18 months is was Louis who said during Chatty Man in mitam promo:

If you want more about the break, check the Big Break tag in chronological order.ย

About Zayn, that was more out of the blue, quite a shock Iโ€™d say. Though some, including myself and friends did speculate if something was going on right before because of Louisโ€™ and mostly Harryโ€™s mood on stage. But we didnโ€™t expect THAT.ย But Sandy Beales for example didnโ€™t know about it, and several has said it was not a decision made months ahead, and that it was quite sudden.ย

The others broke silence a day or couple of days later:

A bathroom figures significantly in the origin stories of at least two classic One Direction songs. The first will be familiar to any fan: Songwriter and producer Savan Kotecha was sitting on the toilet in a London hotel room, when he heard his wife say, “I feel so ugly today.” The words that popped into his head would shape the chorus of One Direction’s unforgettable 2011 debut, “What Makes You Beautiful.”
